I named him something generic and simple to show that he is not very important to the plot of this script. The next character is the working partner of Laura, his name is Ian Smith. This was important to portray because she is the police and it needs to show that she is the law in legal vs moral, and the sane insane vs insane. The next leading role is the detective who is called Laura knight, I gave her a simple name, however, I made sure her last name was something that connotes being honorable and valiant. The perception of European people in America tends to be mysterious and exotic which is what I wanted to portray my character as. This because I wanted him to be mysterious and strange which could be blamed for having a different culture. My protagonist is called Nikolai, I chose this name because I wanted him to be European and from a different part of the world compared to the rest of the cast that is American. I have one protagonist and four characters that are the supporting cast. The connotations of this word are payback, revenge or punishment, in this movie the payback would be on society which the protagonist thinks is his job to inflict the punishment. I thought that this was the definition and the type of morals that the protagonist in this film lives by. The title of my film is ‘retribution’, I chose this because the definition of retribution is a form of punishment that is inflicted on someone due to something that they have done wrong or a criminal act. Therefore there is no equilibrium until a new scene starts on the script. The script starts with the end of the script so that it creates suspense, the first piece of dialogue is “STOP! NIKOLAI! PLEASE!” this shows that there is already a disruption at the beginning of the script. I chose to stray from Todorov’s theory of equilibrium by having a non-linear storyline. It also allows me to add depth to the storyline to make it more interesting. These binary opposites leave mystery throughout the whole script and make it more enticing for the audience when they are reading it. I decided on this storyline so that the main question throughout the film is legal vs moral and sane vs insane. It is about a magistrate that is a hidden psychopath, he thinks everyone should be punished even though the jury finds them guilty. I chose to do a short film that is a mix of horror and thriller. This included a 30-page script of any genre that can either be an episode of a series or a short film. they can fade in, out and to black as well as cutting into the next scene.īefore I can evaluate I have to refer back to the client requirements that I was given. this allows the process to flow onto the next scene and not just cut onto each one. They have to be written in italics and put in brackets so that it doesn’t ruin the flow of the dialogue.Įdits are also a convention in scripts that I used at the end of each scene to show how the scene would move on and blend into the next one. I followed this convention to add more detail. Parentheticals are also a convention in scripts as it allows the writer to add more information about the dialogue like who they are speaking to and what tone they are speaking in. Dialogue has to be placed directly under the character’s name, but it only uses 2 TABS and not 4 like the character’s name. The names have to in capital letters so that it stands out. It is conventional on a script to identify the character before dialogue is added to make it more obvious who is speaking. These descriptions can also include edits to make the script easier to visualize and they have to be in capital letters so they don’t break up the flow of the description. The way I followed the conventions for the description and action is by ensuring that it came under the sluglines after each scene so that it could be set and explain what is happening in the scene. ![]() I also made sure that it is in bold so that it follows all of the conventions for a slugline. the information that needs to be put on a slugline is whether the characters are inside or outside, where they are and whether it is day or night. I followed the conventions of slugline so that it was clear where the script was set. the information is the title of the script/film and who wrote it. I followed the conventions of the title page by ensuring it was written in the middle of the page and putting the key information on it. I made sure that I was writing in the correct font size (12pt) and the correct font (Courier new). I did this by evaluating a script in LO1 and ensuring that I structured the script in the same way and lay it out in the same way. I made sure that I followed all of the conventions of a film script. Below are screenshots of my horror/thriller script, which is a short film.
